We believe that youth sports teams should be fully
prepared in the event of an emergency. As a result of our tragedy,
we have created the ‘JANET Bag’ – Janet’s Always Near Emergency
Treatment bag. It is a fully stocked EMT bag that also includes an
Automated External Defibrillator. The bag is clearly labeled on
the outside with ‘JANET BAG – AED’.
The JANET bag travels everywhere with the team –
practices and games- and is kept on the sidelines of the field. It
is considered a piece of equipment. Just like you would not forget
to bring the bats and balls to baseball or the stick to lacrosse, the
AED should not be forgotten. An AED should be reachable in 3
minutes. If defibrillated within one minute of sudden cardiac
arrest, survival rate is close to 90%.
With each AED purchased or gifted, a JANET bag will
be donated upon request for all AEDs that will be mobile. This
fully stocked JANET bag includes: AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR. ICE
PACKS, ACE BANDAGES, GAUZE PADS, BEE STING KITS, ALCOHOL WIPES,
EMERGENCY BLANKET, GLOVES, SCISSORS, CPR MASK, BANDAIDS AND OTHER
MEDICAL SUPPLIES.
Inside each Janet bag is the ideal place for a coach
to place the team’s players’ medical information, emergency contact
forms and any other pertinent information. In the event of a
life-threatening emergency, it is best if multiple people can respond;
initiate 911, perform CPR, retrieve the AED, contact parents or
emergency contacts and assist where needed.
The cost of a JANET bag is approximately $1250 but
can vary based upon the brand of AED. Anyone interested in
donating a bag to a sports team, organization or township, should
contact us at
info@janetzilinski.org. If your team or school is in need of
an AED, please contact us and we will happily work with you.
