On December 10th, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. we held our first annual ‘Light
the Night’ in Janet’s memory. Over 100 people came to help decorate the
Zilinski Family Christmas tree. Some people brought special ornaments to
hang on our tree. Many were homemade. All are a beautiful tribute to
Janet.
Many people left special messages to Janet on foam and paper cutouts.
Some were hung on twine with clothes pins to create homemade garland and
others created a star bouquet. Look for these messages to be posted on
her site.
At 7 p.m. we went outside to light the night. The first candle lit
was a special candle from All Souls Mass held in November at Our Lady of
the Mount. Most of the other candles were lit from this candle. The 100+
candles were a wonderful reminder of how Janet will always be a light
that burns bright in our lives. Janet’s father and mother both read
special tributes to Janet. They spoke about what an impact she has had
and always will have on their lives and how important it is to give
without asking for anything in return. As we each blew out our candle,
we sent a special, silent message to Janet in heaven.
That evening was an absolutely perfect night. There were hundreds of
stars in the sky. We know that Janet was and always will be the star
shining brightest.
